We're switching it up for this one. Whole foods only!!! Not the store lol, but unprocessed foods straight from the earth.
You can do this challenge as a raw foodie, or as a cooked one. The only stipulation is that everything you eat be comprised of only whole fruits, veggies, seeds, nuts etc. Whole foods are defined as foods that are unprocessed, unrefined, unpasteurized, all natural, with no additives, preservatives, sugar etc. So that means, no pre-made pasta/pasta sauce, store bought salad dressing, daiya cheese, agave nectar, crackers, candy, nama shoyu, nutritional yeast, tortilla chips/wraps, cooking oils (unless raw and cold pressed), pre-made juices (unless freshly squeezed), canned foods etc. Basically nothing made or prepared in a factory, but rather food that has ingredients that are mostly recognizable by sight alone.
This challenge will require you to stick to your grocer’s produce aisle and deviate from it only to pick up items like wild rice, quinoa, nuts and other whole grains/pseudo grains/seeds etc. If you must purchase pre-made items during this challenge they should be raw and list how they were prepared (i.e. dehydrated at 110 degrees for 10 hours).
I understand that this won’t be the easiest thing to do but the reason we're having it is to call attention to our over dependence on processed foods. Pre-made, pre-packaged foods are either devoid of nutrients or largely deprived of them. Microwavable dinners, chips, and other ready-made items have trickled into our health food stores and people who consider themselves healthy, or are on the road to improved health are not exempt. We have to learn to break free from all of that and live as naturally as possible if we want to experience optimal health.
